1. Peel the potatoes and cut them in half. Peel the carrots and slice them into not too thin rounds.
2. Peel and finely chop the onion. Melt it in a cast iron pot with the margarine.
3. Add the chosen meat and brown it with the onions. Add the potatoes and carrots, then cover everything with water.
4. Add the ingredients for the bouquet garni (thyme, bay leaf, and cloves). Let it simmer for 2 hours.
5. Season with salt and pepper about 30 minutes before the end of cooking.
