1. Step 1:
Preheat the oven to 450°F and position the rack towards the top of the oven if necessary.
2. Step 2:
In a bowl, mix the meat, breadcrumbs, egg, and spices.
3. Step 3:
Season with salt and pepper.
4. Step 4:
Using your hands, form balls with about 2 tablespoons of meat each.
5. Step 5:
Insert a few bocconcini pearls (about 4) or a small cube of cheese in the middle of each ball, then cover with the meat.
6. Make sure the cheese is not visible.
7. Step 6:
Spray some cooking spray on a baking sheet.
8. Step 7:
Place the balls on the sheet and bake for about 10 minutes.
9. Do not overcook to prevent the cheese from melting out.
10. Step 8:
While the balls are cooking, heat the tomato sauce.
11. Step 9:
At the end of the cooking time, place the balls on a plate and cover with sauce.
12. Step 10:
Garnish with some grated Parmesan and parsley.
13. These balls can be served as appetizers, on pasta, in a sub sandwich, or as a main dish, for example with roasted potatoes and a salad.
