2. Roughly chop the onion, garlic, and basil (I cut the onion into 4 pieces, the garlic into 2 pieces (removing the germ), and make a pile with the basil leaves before giving them a quick chop).
If you choose fresh tomatoes, also cut them into 4 pieces. Otherwise, open the can!
3. Place everything in a pot or, even better, in a blender that heats up! :)
4. Cover everything with water (you can rinse the can with water, for example), season with salt and pepper.
Close the blender and wait for the beep :) or cook covered for 15 to 20 minutes, then blend everything together.
5. Serve hot, warm, or cold.
Feel free to add some slices of Parma ham or cubes of feta or mozzarella, or even a dollop of sour cream.
Serve with slices of bread (rubbed with garlic for even more flavor!).
