. Peel and slice the potatoes using a mandoline.

. Rub the gratin dish with garlic and coat it with butter.

. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).

. Mix the milk and cream, season with salt, pepper, and sprinkle a little nutmeg.

. Arrange overlapping slices of potatoes in the dish. Pour the mixture over them. Repeat with the remaining potatoes.

. Add knobs of butter on top.

. Bake for 1 hour and 30 minutes, checking the cooking progress.
