"Virgin Mojito" or the Cuban mint-lime cocktail

Made with fresh mint leaves, limes, cane sugar, and water, the "Virgin Mojito" is one of the non-alcoholic versions of the famous Cuban cocktail of the same name, in which the alcohol is replaced with apple juice.

Instructions

  • 1.   Take 6 mini bunches of about 3 leaves each from your fresh mint bouquet, then wash and dry them. Wash and dry the limes, then cut them into quarters or eighths.
  • 2.   In each glass, place one to two teaspoons of cane sugar, according to taste. Add a few lime quarters, then squeeze everything using a pestle.
  • 3.   Mix until the sugar is completely dissolved, then add the mint leaves and the remaining lime, alternating to create a more aesthetic result.
  • 4.   Squeeze again using the pestle, then add crushed ice and half of the apple juice and sparkling water.
  • 5.   Decorate according to your preferences.

Notes & Suggestions

  • If you choose to prepare it the day before, use still water and refrigerate overnight.
  • Please note that there are a few rules to follow for a successful mojito: use still water if it is prepared the day before to allow the mint to release all its flavors, use sparkling water if prepared at the last minute to enhance the mint taste, avoid placing individual mint leaves in the mojito as they could clog the straw, instead keep them attached to others in the form of mini bouquets or on their stems. Serve it preferably in a tall glass to facilitate the preparation, which is done directly in the glass or alternatively, like me, in the Circée Haute La Rochère coupe.
