Greek Croque

What is the difference between "épaule" and "jambon"? "Épaule" refers to the front part of the animal and is used for cooking. "Jambon," on the other hand, refers to the thigh and hind part of the pig and is typically consumed as is. Feta is a famous Greek cheese made from sheep's milk. It is used sliced to accompany appetizers or mixed salads. There is also feta made from cow's milk.

Instructions

  • 1.   Preheat the oven to 200°C (th 6). Remove the oven rack and cover it with aluminum foil. Take out the butter to soften it a bit.
  • 2.   Prepare the ingredients for the croque-monsieur: peel the half cucumber with a peeler. Cut it in half lengthwise. Remove the seeds with a small spoon. Salt it and let it rest for 10 minutes in a colander in the sink to drain.
  • 3.   Cut the slices of ham or shoulder into 4 pieces and place them on a plate.
  • 4.   Cut the feta (or goat cheese) into small cubes (1 cm on each side) and place them in a bowl.
  • 5.   Wipe the cucumber, cut it into approximately 1 cm cubes, and place them in another bowl.
  • 6.   Chop the olives and place them in a small container.
  • 7.   Spread butter on only one side of the 8 slices of bread.
  • 8.   Place 4 slices of bread, buttered side down, on the aluminum foil-covered oven rack. Place on each slice: a slice of ham, then feta cubes, cucumber cubes, and olive pieces. Finish with another slice of ham and cover with a slice of bread, buttered side up.
To keep the croque-monsieur closed, secure them with one or two toothpicks.
  • 9.   Place the rack in the oven and bake the croque-monsieur for 5 minutes. Flip them over and bake for another 5 minutes. They are ready!

Notes & Suggestions

  • You can use shoulder instead of ham and fresh goat cheese instead of feta.
  • If you replace feta with mozzarella, cucumber with tomato, olives with basil, and Parisian ham with Parma ham, you will get a fabulous "croque-signor"!

A bit salty for my taste as well but still good and I like the idea of using feta in the croques! It's really interesting!

I used goat cheese instead of feta. It was really good. A great recipe ^^ However, it was a bit salty with the olives, cheese, and ham, but it might also be due to the quality of my ingredients
